Finding Solutions to Plastic Pollution
There is currently over 5 trillion pieces of plastic floating in our oceans and by 2050, there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish.
The Ocean Cleanup project estimates that over 5 trillion pieces of plastic are currently floating in our oceans, with around 8 million tons of plastic entering the ocean each year, killing birds and sea mammals, as well as countless fish and other sea life. According to Ocean Cleanup research, if the plastic problem continues the way it is, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.

Oceanmax has a deep affinity with the ocean, and to celebrate Plastic Free July, Oceanmax wants to highlight the amazing sustainability work that our sister company, Floorspace, is involved in to help protect our previous marine environment. Floorspace, a New Zealand flooring company, is now selling Carpets Inter products in New Zealand, a company that incorporates recycled materials into their products wherever possible.

Carpet Inter’s Ecosoft product uses around 50 recycled plastic bottles in every square metre of the carpet made, so far preventing around 700,000,000 plastic bottles from entering our oceans, bringing them close to achieving their goal of recycling 1,000,000,000 plastic bottles by 2025.
