Feeding the Victims of Hurricane Florence

Even from far away, a little can go a long way. Our thoughts and prayers are with our many friends and customers affected by this traumatic weather event.

On September 14, Hurricane Florence grabbed headlines around the world as she made landfall in Wrightsville Beach, devastating North and South Carolina and claiming the lives of 43 people, mostly in the wake of post-storm flooding. Two weeks later, rivers are still cresting and evacuations ongoing. Many of our friends at Paxton Company have been directly impacted by the storm.

 

The Food Bank of Eastern and Central North Carolina was Paxton’s charity of choice for helping displaced residents slowly put their lives back together. “Of course, we were happy to help support their community,” says Oceanmax sales support administrator Claire Blohm. “Ten dollars provides 50 meals to those in need. Much of Eastern and Central North Carolina is still flooded, with people just now returning to their homes 11 days after the storm to find nothing left.”

 

Oceanmax’s US five-person sales team donated $100, and each US employee contributed $20 of their own money on top of that, bringing the team total to $200.

 

On the other side of the world, concern for our friends and customers was also deeply felt. “Thank you to New Zealand for the $100 donation,” says Claire, a Kiwi expatriate now living in Fort Lauderdale, “and to [managing director] Clint Jones and [marketing manager] Nona Pedersen, who also donated $20 each, giving us a grand total of $340. Very generous of New Zealand to support a charity so far away.”

 

We only hope that our modest contribution can make a difference in the aftermath of this terrible tragedy. Donate to the Food Bank: Just  $35 will provide 175 nutritious meals to those in need.
