Brazilian Regatta Presents Golden Opportunity
Propspeed Brazil aims to grow the country's fledgling sailboat market as a first-time sponsor of the Caras Island Regatta, now in its 19th year.
The 19th edition of the Caras Island Regatta, hosted by Revista Náutica magazine, is just around the corner. Considered one of Brazil’s foremost sailing events, the 2018 regatta begins on February 24 and marks the start of summer in Angra do Reis, which loosely translates as “the anchorage of kings.”
A Brazilian municipality in southwest Rio de Janeiro, Angra do Reis is made up of 365 islands and a small port swathed in lushly forested coastline dotted with beaches. Biodiverse Ilha Grande, as its name suggests, is the largest of these islands. Last year’s regatta drew 87 sailors and 600 crew who sailed the bay of Ilha Grande and feasted on a lunch of feijoada, a traditional Portuguese stew, on Caras Island.
This year’s event marks the first time that Propspeed will be a sponsor, giving away four 200ml foul-release kits at the awards ceremony and raffling off one more, with all registered boats being in to win.
“We are trying to improve sales and grow the sailboat market in Brazil with this campaign,” says Januario Gagliardi, Propspeed’s South American distributor. The Brazilian sailboat market is still relatively small, comprising about 10,000 in number as compared to 60,000 motorboats in the 16-foot-plus category.
Depsite this, Januario says, “Sailors are looking for a cheap solution for keeping their props clean, but we are trying to show the cost benefit behind Propspeed. We are glad to be part of this event. My team and I expect great feedback from the public.”
Propspeed Brazil will also be giving free tickets to its VIP customers.
“Our VIP customers are our best applicators and boat owners, the ones who helped Propspeed grow.”
Among the invited classes are ORC, IRC, BRA RGS, APS, Cruzeiro, Multicasco and Feminino. Registration closes February 16, and each enrolled crew will receive two tickets to the 2018 Rio Boat Show, held at Marina da Glória from April 14 to 22.
